BEACH HAZARDS STATEMENT REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM EDT THIS EVENING
What:
Dangerous rip currents and strong longshore currents in
the surf zone.
Where:
The beaches north of Cape Hatteras.
When:
Until 8 PM EDT this evening.
Impacts:
Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away
from shore into deeper water. Strong longshore currents will
create dangerous swimming conditions.
Additional Details:
The most likely time for strong rip
currents to occur is a couple hours either side of low tide,
which will occur around 2 PM this afternoon.
Instructions:
Life-threatening rip currents. If caught in a rip current, remain
calm. Swim in a direction following the shoreline. If tired,
float or tread water until out of the rip current. If unable to
escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.

Strong longshore currents can sweep swimmers and surfers into rip
currents, piers, jetties and other hazardous areas. In many
cases, the longshore current is strong enough to prevent swimmers
from being able to keep their feet on the bottom making it
difficult to return to shore.

BEACH HAZARDS STATEMENT REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM PDT THIS MORNING THROUGH SUNDAY EVENING
What:
An incoming long-period northwesterly swell will
increase the risk of sneaker waves and strong rip currents.
Where:
Beaches along the Pacific Coast.
When:
From Saturday morning through Sunday evening.
Impacts:
Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and
localized beach erosion can be expected. Sneaker waves can
sweep across the shoreline without warning, pulling people
into the sea from rocks, jetties and beaches.
Instructions:
Stay off of jetties, piers, rocks, and other waterside
infrastructure. Remain out of the water to avoid hazardous surf
and NEVER turn your back on the ocean. Monitor local weather,
surf and tide forecasts at www.weather.gov/mtr.

San Francisco Peninsula Coast
Northern Monterey Bay

BEACH HAZARDS STATEMENT REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM THIS EVENING THROUGH SUNDAY MORNING
What:
Moderate risk of sneaker waves expected.
Where:
Beaches of Curry, Coos, and Douglas counties.
When:
From this evening through Sunday morning.
Impacts:
Sneaker waves can run up significantly farther on
beaches than normal, including over rocks and jetties. These
waves can suddenly knock people off of their feet and sweep
them into the ocean. The waves can also move logs or other
objects which could crush or trap anyone caught underneath.
Additional Details:
A short period northwest swell and a
building long period northwest swell may combine their energy
to produce dangerous surges. The risk will be highest around
sunrise on Sunday morning.

Instructions:
Avoid climbing on rocks and jetties. Stay away from the ocean and
remain out of the water to avoid hazardous conditions.

BEACH HAZARDS STATEMENT REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM SATURDAY EVENING THROUGH SUNDAY EVENING
What:
Increased threat of sneaker waves expected.
Where:
Coastal Del Norte, Northern Coastal Humboldt,
Southwestern Humboldt and Coastal Mendocino Counties.
When:
From Saturday evening through Sunday evening. .
Impacts:
Large, unexpected waves can sweep across the beach
without warning, sweeping people into the sea from rocks,
jetties, and beaches. These sneaker waves can also move large
objects such as logs, crushing anyone caught underneath.
Instructions:
Don't be fooled by an ocean that looks calm. There can be
30 minutes of small waves before a sneaker wave strikes. Avoid
rocks and jetties. Avoid steep beaches. Stay much farther back
from the water and never turn your back on the ocean.

BEACH HAZARDS STATEMENT REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 6 AM EDT SATURDAY THROUGH SATURDAY EVENING
What:
Strong north to south longshore current. There is also a
Moderate Risk of rip currents expected at New Hanover beaches.
Where:
In North Carolina, Coastal New Hanover County. In
South Carolina, Coastal Georgetown County.
When:
From 6 AM EDT Saturday through Saturday evening.
Impacts:
Longshore currents can sweep swimmers and surfers
into rip currents, piers, jetties, and other hazardous areas.
It may sweep swimmers off their feet, making it difficult to
return to shore.
Instructions:
Caution should be used when in or near the water. Check with
lifeguards before entering the ocean for possible hazards you may
be swept into.
