FLOOD ADVISORY FOR A DAM FLOODGATE RELEASE IN EFFECT FROM THIS MORNING TO TOMORROW MORNING... ...REPLACES RIVER FLOOD WARNING
The National Weather Service in Marquette has issued a Flood
Advisory for the following rivers in Michigan...

Michigamme River near Witch Lake affecting Dickinson and
Marquette Counties.

.Snow melt, recent rainfall, and increased reservoir releases are
causing the river flows to run high.
What:
Elevated river levels caused by upstream dam release are
occurring.
Where:
Michigamme River near Witch Lake.
When:
From this morning to tomorrow morning.
Impacts:
At 8.0 feet, Water inundates low lying areas along the
river in Republic and South Republic...and will impact the yards
of homes near Bengtson bridge on County Road LI in South Republic
At 8.5 feet, Water begins to cover County Road LG 2.6 miles
northwest of M-95
At 9.0 feet, Water impacts the yards and a few homes near Bengtson
bridge on County Road LI in South Republic and along Floodwood
Drive near the Michigamme River east of M-95. Approximately 6
inches of water is covering portions of County Road LG northwest
of M-95
At 11.0 feet, Flood waters cover significant portions of County
Road LG between M-95 and Michigamme Dam. Houses near Bengtson
Bridge in South Republic are further impacted by flood waters
Additional Details:
- At 6:10 AM CDT Saturday /7:10 AM EDT Saturday/ the stage was
8.9 feet.
- Bankfull stage is 8.5 feet.
- Forecast...The river is expected to continue to gradually
recede and fall below 8.5 ft by Sunday afternoon.
- Action stage is 8.5 feet.
- Flood stage is 9.0 feet.

Michigamme River near Republic affecting Marquette County.

.Snow melt, recent rainfall, and increased reservoir releases will
cause the river flows to become elevated.
What:
Elevated river levels caused by snowmelt, recent rainfall,
and upstream dam releases are occurring.
Where:
Michigamme River near Republic.
When:
From this evening to early Sunday morning.
Additional Details:
- At 7:00 AM EDT Friday the stage was 9.0 feet.
- Bankfull stage is 8.4 feet.
- Recent Activity...The maximum river stage in the 24 hours
ending at 7:00 AM EDT Friday was 9.0 feet.
- Forecast...The river is expected to fall to 6.6 feet Friday,
May 08.
- Action stage is 8.4 feet.
- Flood stage is 9.0 feet.

County.

.Snow melt, recent rainfall, and dam releases are creating elevated
river levels.
What:
Elevated river levels caused by rain, snowmelt, and dam
releases continue.
Where:
Michigamme River near Crystal Falls (Michigamme).
When:
Until further notice.
Impacts:
At 7.0 feet, 2700 cfs - River exceeds bankfull stage

- At 7:30 PM CDT Friday the stage was 7.3 feet.
- Bankfull stage is 7.0 feet.

FLOOD ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM CDT SATURDAY
What:
Flooding caused by runoff from rain and snowmelt continues.
Where:
In Minnesota, Cook and Lake Counties.
When:
Until 700 PM CDT Saturday.
Impacts:
Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.
Some low-water crossings may become impassable. River or stream
flows are elevated.
Additional Details:
- At 948 AM CDT Friday, automated river gages and the public
reported flooding in the advisory area. Minor flooding is
occurring.
- Expect high, fast moving water on area rivers and elevated
lake levels. Water levels are near or just surpassed those
seen during flood events in Spring 2022 and June 2024.
Further water level increases are possible through this
weekend after which slow declines should begin.

Gunflint Lake, Forest Center, Little Saganaga Lake, Boundary
Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, Snowbank Lake, Alpine Lake, Sea
Gull Lake, Isabella, Saganaga Lake, Basswood Lake, Fall Lake,
White Iron Lake, Birch Lake, Boundary Waters Canoe Area
Wilderness North of the Gunflint Trail, Pine Lake, Alice
Lake, Malberg Lake, Lake Polly and Thomas Lake.

Instructions:
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Campers and hikers should avoid flooded trail crossings. If camping
at a site along or near the banks of rivers or streams, move away
from those locations and seek higher ground. Trails in hilly terrain
can quickly become unstable during or shortly after heavy rainfall.

Portage and hiking trails may be impassable and low-lying campsites
may be inundated with excessive runoff in this section of the
Boundary Waters as flooding is occurring or imminent.
