danger is High at mid and upper elevations.
Where:
The Valdez and Thompson Pass area.
When:
In effect from Saturday, 8:00 am to Sunday, 8:00am AKST.

There is a high chance that a person or machine could
trigger an avalanche today. Natural avalanches will also be
possible. If the sun comes out this afternoon, we strongly
suggest you resist the temptation to travel on or below slopes
over 30 degrees. Avalanches may be triggered remotely from flat
terrain below steeper slopes.

in the backcountry, choose terrain that is less than 30 degrees
in steepness, with nothing steeper above you. Cautious route-

necessary to identify and avoid slopes that could avalanche.

INCREASED FIRE DANGER TODAY
The combination of dry fuels, gusty southwest to west winds, and
low relative humidity of about 20-30% this afternoon into the
evening will lead to an increased risk for the rapid spread of
wildfires.

Most dry grasses, dead leaves, and other tree litter could easily
ignite and spread fire quickly.

A statewide burn ban issued by the North Carolina Forest Service is
currently in place. Open burning of any kind is illegal.

ignite and spread fire quickly. People in this area are urged to
properly dispose of cigarette butts, matches, and any other
flammable items in appropriate containers. Exercise caution if
operating any equipment that could create sparks, and keep
vehicles off of dry leaves and grass.
