129 AM MDT Wed Apr 22 2026

This hazardous weather outlook is for portions of central...east
central...south central and southeast Colorado.

.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight

A Red Flag warning is in effect for all of the region except the
San Juan Mountains this afternoon and evening. A Particularly
Dangerous Situation Red Flag Warning is in effect this afternoon
and evening for the San Luis Valley, the Upper Arkansas River
Valley, the Wet Mountain Valley and all of the Wet and Sangre De
Cristo Mountains. Very strong west-southwest winds of 20 to 40 mph
with localized gusts to 60 mph are expected, and relative
humidity values will be in the single digits. The strongest winds
are expected to occur in the San Luis valley and the Wet Mountain
valley. Please do not do anything which could cause a spark and
start a wild fire.

Areas of blowing dust will be likely today across the San Luis
Valley, with patchy blowing dust on the plains as well. Watch for
rapid changes in visibility when traveling across the area, as
near zero visibility may be possible at times in open areas.

Isolated thunderstorms will be possible near the Kansas border
this afternoon, producing very strong winds to 60 mph and
occasional cloud to ground lightning, which may lead to fire
starts at a few locations.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Thursday through Tuesday

Critical fire weather conditions will once again occur on
Thursday, but the winds are not expected to be as strong as
Wednesday.

Shower chances then increase area-wide over the weekend into
early next week as a weather system moves across the region, with
the greatest chance for precipitation occuring along the
Continental Divide on Sunday. Snow will be possible at times over
the higher elevations, with a risk of isolated thunderstorms as
well on Saturday and Sunday.

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...

Weather conditions that meet reporting criteria for spotters will
be possible over portions of the region.

This hazardous weather outlook is for extreme southwest Nebraska...
northwest Kansas and east central Colorado.

.DAY ONE...TODAY AND TONIGHT...

A Red Flag Warning is in effect for counties along and west of a
line from McCook, Nebraska, to Leoti, Kansas, from late this morning
through this evening. Relative humidity as low as 10 percent and wind
gusts up to 45 mph will lead to increased fire danger. In addition,
afternoon storms may produce dry lightning which can trigger
wildfires. Expect unpredictable fire behavior. Any fires that develop
may rapidly grow and spread out of control.

Widely scattered thunderstorms will develop between noon and 2pm MT
this afternoon in the vicinity of the Kansas and Colorado border and
move northeast through this afternoon before dissipating between 5pm
and 8pm MT. Some storms may be capable of producing wind gusts of up
to 60 mph, isolated large hail, and blowing dust and localized dust
storms. High winds and blowing dust may create dangerous travel
conditions, especially for high profile vehicles, in and near
thunderstorms.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...THURSDAY THROUGH TUESDAY...

Thursday, relative humidity as low as 10 percent and wind gusts up
to 25 mph could lead to increased fire danger again for most of the
area. Dry lightning is also possible. Fires may spread rapidly.

Widely scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms Thursday
afternoon may produce wind gusts of up to 60 mph as well as blowing
dust and localized dust storms. Hazardous travel conditions due to
wind and reduced visibility will be possible.

.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...

Active weather across portions of the Tri-State Area is anticipated.
Spotters are encouraged to report significant weather conditions.
