Rounds of scattered thunderstorms are forecast today. The first
round over western into northeastern Iowa may contain large hail
this morning into early this afternoon. Then, additional storms
will develop over southwestern Iowa this afternoon and move
across the state with large hail, damaging winds, and a few
tornadoes possible into this evening. The highest risk is in
southern Iowa, roughly south of I-80.
Pockets of heavy rain could also lead to ponding and flooding,
particularly in urban areas. Recent heavy rains will lead to
within bank rises on some area rivers and streams. Minor flooding
of low lying areas may also occur.

South Central Kansas and Southeast Kansas.

Strong and severe thunderstorms are expected to develop along a
southeastward moving cold front this afternoon and evening.
Locations along and southeast of the Kansas Turnpike will have the
best chance for storms. The strongest activity could produce 60-70
mph winds and quarter sized hail. Heavy rain may aggravate ongoing
river flooding in parts of southeast Kansas.
A very high grassland fire danger will develop over central Kansas
behind the cold front with northwest winds gusting over 30 mph at
times this afternoon.

DISCUSSION...
Isolated thunderstorms are possible in far eastern Oklahoma and
western Arkansas. The greater potential for shower/thunderstorm
development is expected to be after sunset tonight with a risk of
cloud-to-ground lightning. South to southwest winds will continue
gusting 20 to 30 mph this evening.

EXTENDED DISCUSSION...
Thunderstorms are likely to develop Friday afternoon and evening
ahead of a cold front. Severe weather is possible, especially from
early to mid-evening. The primary risks will be hail to the size
of golf balls and wind gusts in excess of 60 mph. Heavy rainfall
will accompany those storms and lead to a potential for localized
flooding. After that, calmer and cooler weather will be in place
for the rest of the weekend and early next week.
This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for east central Illinois and
southeast Illinois.
.DAY ONE...Tonight.
Periods of thunderstorms are expected through the evening, lingering
past midnight south of I-70. Some of the storms will be severe.
Damaging winds, potentially as high as 60 to 70 mph, will be the
primary threat, though there is also a low threat of tornadoes.
Outside of the storms, strong south winds with gusts 40 to 50 mph
will continue into early evening. This could cause difficult driving
conditions for high profile vehicles, especially on east west
oriented roadways.
.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Friday through Wednesday.
Thunderstorms are expected to develop again by late afternoon Friday,
and continue into the first part of Saturday. Some of the storms may
be strong after midnight Friday night.
Minor flooding is possible along the Wabash River, beginning this
weekend.

Spotter activation may be needed through this evening.
Expected storm motion is toward the northeast, around 50 mph.

central Illinois.

Scattered thunderstorms are expected through the first half of the
evening, with the highest threat of severe weather near and west of
the Illinois River. Damaging winds, potentially as high as 75 mph,
will be the primary threat, though large hail and a few tornadoes are
also possible.
.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Friday through Wednesday.
Another round of severe storms is forecast Friday night into the
overnight hours, with all hazards possible.
Minor flooding may develop along portions of the Illinois River
early next week, mainly from Havana to Beardstown.

Moderate to heavy snowfall will be seen across most of the mountains.
Winter travel conditions are expected over passes. Lighter snow is
expected across western valleys today, moving to lower elevations
east of the Continental Divide tonight.
Rain will quickly change over to snow across some of the lower
elevations of northern WY tonight, and be accompanied by gusty
north-northwest wind. Moderate snowfall is expected in the eastern
parts of the Big Horn Basin tonight into Friday morning, as well as
across northern Johnson County from around midnight to sunrise.
.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Friday through Wednesday.
Friday...Mountain snow continues, with light snow also across lower
elevations at times, especially in the areas around the Bighorn
Mountains and into Natrona County. Winter travel conditions are
possible along mountain passes, as well as the I-90 Corridor in
northern Johnson County.
