What:
For the Extreme Cold Warning, dangerously cold wind chills
as low as zero are expected. For the Cold Weather Advisory, very
cold wind chills as low as 5 degrees above zero are expected.
Where:
Portions of southeast Arkansas, northeast Louisiana, and
central, east central, north central, northeast, northwest, south
central, southeast, southwest, and west central Mississippi.
When:
For the Extreme Cold Warning, from 3 AM to 6 PM CST
Saturday. For the Cold Weather Advisory, from 6 PM Saturday to 10
AM CST Sunday.
Impacts:
An extended period of freezing temperatures could cause
ruptured water pipes.Very cold wind chills can lead to hypothermia
with prolonged exposure.
Instructions: Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must
go outside.
To prevent water pipes from freezing; wrap or drain or allow them to
drip slowly.
Drain in-ground sprinkler systems and cover above ground pipes.
Keep pets indoors as much as possible. Make sure outdoor animals
have a warm, dry shelter, food, and unfrozen water.
Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure
portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills
inside.
Monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates.
Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a
hat, and gloves.
