FLOOD ADVISORY FOR AN ICE JAM IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM AKDT THIS EVENING FOR ANIAK... ...REPLACES FLOOD WARNING
What:
Flooding caused by an ice jam.
Where:
Aniak.
When:
Until 800 PM AKDT Sunday.
Impacts:
Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.
River or stream flows are elevated due to ice jam downstream of
Aniak. Water on roadways in Aniak is possible.
Additional Details:
- At 730 AM AKDT, the River Watch Team reported an ice jam is
still in place on Kuskokwim River downstream of Aniak near
Birch Crossing. Jammed ice continues to remain tightly packed
from the toe of the jam up to the gravel pit at Aniak. Water
levels have decreased over the past 24 hours and this trend
is expected to continue.

FLOOD ADVISORY FOR AN ICE JAM IN EFFECT UNTIL 5 PM AKDT SUNDAY
What:
Flooding is ongoing due to an ice jam on the Tanana River
near the confluence of the Cosna River.
Where:
Tanana and Cosna River Confluence region.
When:
Until 500 PM AKDT Sunday.
Impacts:
Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.
Additional Details:
- At 220 PM AKDT, public reports an ice jam on Tanana River
near the Tanana and Cosna River Confluence region. Impounding
water due to the ice jam has caused rapid river rises
upstream. The build up of water behind the ice jam is not
expected to cause any flooding in Manley at this time.

FLOOD ADVISORY FOR AN ICE JAM NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 PM AKDT SUNDAY
What:
Flooding caused by an ice jam continues.
Where:
Chatanika near Tight Bend into Minto Flats.
When:
Until 1000 PM AKDT Sunday.
Impacts:
An ice jam on the Chatanika River is causing flooding of
some cabin properties along the river. More ice is still coming
from upstream so the flooding may increase before the jam releases.
Additional Details:
- As of 1225 PM AKDT Saturday May 9th, the River Watch Team
reported today that an ice jam on the Chatanika River has
remained in a similar location to yesterday with perhaps a
slight drop in water levels. A mix of ice and high water
stretches for another 20 miles upriver with open water
continuing for about 10 miles to the Elliot Highway.

FLOOD ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 345 PM CDT MONDAY
What:
Flooding caused by rain and snowmelt continues.
Where:
In Minnesota, northwest Cook, northern Lake and northeast
St. Louis Counties.
When:
Until 345 PM CDT Monday.
Impacts:
Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas,
rivers and around area lakes. Some low-water crossings may become
impassable.
Additional Details:
- At 943 AM CDT Saturday, elevated river and lake levels
continue.
- This includes the following streams and drainages...
Isabella River, Moose River, Jeanette Creek, Horse River,
Basswood River, Kawishiwi River, and Hustler River.

Additional rainfall amounts up to one-quarter inch are
expected over the area through early next week.

Expect high, fast moving water on area rivers and elevated
lake levels. Water levels are near or above those seen during
flood events in Spring 2022 and June 2024.

Areas near the end of the Gunflint Trail and near Ely will
see slow decreases in elevated water levels through this
weekend. For areas near and on Basswood Lake and Lac La
Croix, expect rises to continue into this weekend, with peak
flows expected during the week of May 11.

Those venturing into the Boundary Waters should prepare for
high water and possible inundation of portages and campsites,
as well as dangerous rapids and very cold water.

Gunflint Lake, Snowbank Lake, Basswood Lake, Boundary Waters
Canoe Area Wilderness, Fall Lake, White Iron Lake, Sea Gull
Lake, Saganaga Lake, Ensign Lake, Disappointment Lake and Lac
La Croix.

Instructions:
Campers and hikers should avoid flooded trail crossings. If camping
at a site along or near the banks of rivers or streams, move away
from those locations and seek higher ground.

Portage and hiking trails may be impassable and low-lying campsites
may be inundated with excessive runoff in this section of the
Boundary Waters as flooding is occurring or imminent.

Report observed flooding to local emergency services or law
enforcement and to the National Weather Service in Duluth when you
can do so safely. Flooding can be reported to the National Weather
Service at 1-800-685-8612.
