What:
For the Cold Weather Advisory, very cold wind chills
ranging from near zero to 9 degrees. For the Extreme Cold Watch,
dangerously cold wind chills as low as 5 below possible.
Where:
All of central North Carolina
When:
For the Cold Weather Advisory, from 1 AM Saturday to 1 AM
EST Sunday. For the Extreme Cold Watch, from late Saturday night
through Sunday morning.
Impacts:
Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin
is exposed to these temperatures. An extended period of freezing
temperatures could cause ruptured water pipes.
Instructions: Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must
go outside.
Keep pets indoors as much as possible.
Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure
portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills
inside.

What:
Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 4 and
7 inches. Localized areas of significant snow amounts will be
possible.
Where:
The Piedmont and western Sandhills.
When:
From 4 PM this afternoon to 7 AM EST Sunday.
Impacts:
Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will
likely become slick and hazardous. Travel could be very difficult
or even impossible at times Saturday into Sunday.
Instructions: If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in
your vehicle in case of an emergency. The latest road conditions for
the state you are calling from can be obtained by calling 5 1 1.

Confidence continues to increase for measurable snow in central NC
Friday night into Sunday morning. Although considerable forecast
uncertainty remains regarding amounts and related impacts, the
potential exists for significant snow anywhere from the Carolinas
into portions of the Middle Atlantic.
That increasing potential for snow will be accompanied by Arctic
cold and a blustery wind that will produce multiple mornings of wind
chill values in the single digits below zero to single digits above
zero through the weekend.
