What:
Heavy lake effect snow and blowing snow today through
Friday. Additional snow accumulations 8 to 14 inches in the most
persistent lake snows. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph will
produce significant blowing and drifting snow.
Widespread heavy snow possible late Saturday night through Monday
evening. Significant accumulations possible.
Where:
Wyoming and Southern Erie Counties.
When:
For the Lake Effect Snow Warning, until 1 PM EST Friday.
For the Winter Storm Watch, from late Saturday night through
Monday evening.
Impacts:
Travel will be very difficult with snow covered roads
and very poor visibility at times. The hazardous conditions will
impact the Thursday morning and evening commutes.
Instructions: Heavy snow will fall in relatively narrow bands. If traveling, be
prepared for rapidly changing road conditions and visibilities.

Begin needed preparations at home or with your vehicle. Travel may
become difficult, so plan accordingly.

Lake Effect Snow Warning

What:
For the Winter Weather Advisory,additional snow
accumulations between 1 and 3 inches and winds gusting as high as
35 mph.
For the Lake Effect Snow Warning, heavy lake effect snow expected.
Total snow accumulations up to 8 to 12 inches expected, with
locally higher amounts possible in Herkimer County north of Route
28.
Where:
Hamilton and Northern Herkimer Counties.
When:
For the Winter Weather Advisory, until 1 PM EST this
afternoon. For the Lake Effect Snow Warning, from 1 PM this
afternoon to 7 PM EST Friday.
Impacts:
Travel could be very difficult due to snow covered
roads, reduced visibilities, and blowing and drifting snow.
Additional Details:
Scattered snow showers transition to a band
of heavy lake effect snow this afternoon. The band will remain
across northern Herkimer and Hamilton Counties through Friday
afternoon before dropping south out of the warning area.
Instructions: Persons should delay all travel if possible. If travel is absolutely
necessary, drive with extreme caution and be prepared for sudden
changes in visibility. Leave plenty of room between you and the
motorist ahead of you, and allow extra time to reach your
destination. Avoid sudden braking or acceleration, and be especially
cautious on hills or when making turns.
