What:
A moderate to long period northwesterly swell will
result in breaking waves of 12 to 17 feet and an increased
risk for sneaker waves and rip currents. Waves locally up to
20 feet at favored breaking points.
Where:
San Francisco, Coastal North Bay Including Point Reyes
National Seashore, San Francisco Peninsula Coast, Northern
Monterey Bay and Southern Monterey Bay and Big Sur Coast
Counties.
When:
Through late Wednesday night.
Impacts:
Sneaker waves can unexpectedly run significantly
farther up the beach than normal, including over rocks and
jetties. Rip currents are typically more frequent and stronger
in the vicinity of jetties, inlets, and piers. Swimmers should
always swim near a lifeguard.
Additional Details:
The largest breaking waves will be tonight
through Wednesday where favored locations such as Mavericks may
exceed 20 feet.
Instructions: Remain out of the water to avoid hazardous swimming conditions.

Where:
Coastal Del Norte, Northern Humboldt Coast and
Southwestern Humboldt Counties.
When:
From 9 AM PDT Tuesday through Tuesday afternoon. .
Impacts:
Large, unexpected waves can sweep across the beach
without warning, sweeping people into the sea from rocks,
jetties, and beaches. These sneaker waves can also move large
objects such as logs, crushing anyone caught underneath.
Instructions: Don't be fooled by an ocean that looks calm. There can be
30 minutes of small waves before a sneaker wave strikes. Avoid
rocks and jetties. Avoid steep beaches. Stay much farther back
from the water and never turn your back on the ocean.

For the Beach Hazards Statement, high risk of sneaker
waves. For the High Surf Advisory, large breaking waves of 21
to 24 feet in the surf zone.
Where:
All beaches and surf of Douglas, Coos and Curry
Counties.
When:
For the Beach Hazards Statement, from 6 AM PDT Tuesday
through 2 PM PDT Tuesday afternoon. For the High Surf Advisory,
from 2 PM PDT Tuesday to 5 AM PDT Wednesday.
Impacts:
Sneaker waves can run up significantly farther on
beaches than normal, including over rocks and jetties. These
waves can suddenly knock people off of their feet and quickly
pull them into the cold ocean waters, resulting in serious
injury or death. Waves may also lift driftwood logs, trapping
anyone caught underneath. Large breaking waves will create
hazardous conditions along and within the surf zone, and could
inundate beaches and low lying shorelines. Beach erosion is
possible, and exposed infrastructure may be damaged.
Additional Details:
Waves are likely most dangerous during the
run up to high tide.

Instructions: Stay away from the surf zone and off of jetties. Area beaches may
become hazardous due to dangerous surf conditions.
Avoid climbing on rocks and jetties. Stay away from the ocean and

them into the frigid ocean which may lead to serious injury or
drowning.
Additional Details:
A Beach Hazards Statement is issued when
sneaker waves create potentially life-threatening conditions in
the surf zone. Caution should be used when in or near the water.
Always keep an eye on the waves, and be especially watchful of
children and pets. Those participating in razor clam digs should
exercise caution.
Instructions: Remain out of the water to avoid hazardous swimming conditions.
